Caribbean Cement Co. Ltd. announced the departure of General Manager Peter Donkersloot Ponce. Yago Castro, currently the general manager of Arawak Cement Co. Ltd., will succeed Donkersloot Ponce, effective Aug. 1. Both Carib Cement and Arawak are members of the Cemex Group.
Castro brings extensive industrial and strategic experience coupled with strong technical, financial and operational competencies developed over 16 years with Cemex. He has served as director planning, procurement and legal for Cemex in Nicaragua, Guatemala and El Salvador.
Castro also held various roles at Cemex Europe, Midwest and Central America. He has a B.Sc. in chemical engineering from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and an Executive MBA from the IE Business School, also located in Madrid, Spain.
Leadership rotation and succession planning are part of Cemex’s talent development program. Having been with Cemex for 13 years, Donkersloot Ponce advised the company that he will not seek an extension of his contract.
Carib Cement board and management thanks Donkersloot Ponce for his outstanding leadership in managing a period of critical transformation for the company, which resulted in improvements in safety, operational efficiency and shareholder value. The company stated it’s on a stronger and more sustainable path, which will continue under Castro’s leadership.
